Beau (a.k.a. Bay)
(06/17/2021 ADOPTED)
Hello, My name is Bay and I am a 3-year-old boy.
I am a White Terrier mixed and weigh around 46lbs (21kg). I have been neutered and vetted.
I moved to the Bay area in November 2020 and been living with my foster family since. I’ve been receiving training to adapt to my new life. I currently have two hooman sisters, and I’m the happiest doggo when I run with them full speed in the backyard!
Before I came to my foster home, I lived in the shelter for about 2 years.
Shelter aunties remember me when I was little, and according to them, I was a happy, jolly little puppy. However, after living nearly 2 years in the shelter, I am no longer the jolly puppy I once was. I am somewhat timid and can be scared of people. Still, I do appreciate gentle pets and rubs.
I’m friendly with other dogs. I got a lot of energy, so it will be a perfect match if I meet a family who can take me for walks and play often.
Please submit an adoption application if you would like to take me home. I can’t wait to meet you!
-Bay
*Although Bay is a part Westie, he has a moderate to high amount of shedding depending on the season. Please keep this in mind before you submit an application for him.
Bay's characteristics:
1. Very patient, does not fret or bark
2. Does not demand food at mealtime (he sits down and waits patiently for food)
3. Does not touch food on countertops or tables
4. Bay adjusts the amount of his meal by himself. (Is not gluttonous, but really likes meat)
5. Considers home to be a place of rest (most of the time at home is spent lying down and sleeping independently), and considers walking time as playtime (Bay must be taken on walks at least 1 hour in the morning and in the afternoon each).
8. Bay is not reactive to people, dogs, cats, still animals, bicycles, cars when he is on a walk (exceptions: he likes to chase after moving squirrels or birds, but stops when commanded to 'stop').
9. Does not enjoy being touched or petted, but you can coerce him to tolerate brushing his whole body and removing dirt from his feet.
10. Tolerates dry shampooing.
11. Bay's relationship with other dogs is very good, and if the other dog refuses, he knows how to respect that. Bay can eat snacks while waiting for his turn without bothering the other dog. He also yields his snacks and meals to other dogs.
12. He's never been around children but does not like being pet.
13. Completely Housebroken (outdoors)
14. Use Short leashes for indoors and long leashes outdoors
15. You must hold the leash before you can execute any command.
Commands/words that Bay knows:
‘Go place’: go to his cushion
‘come’: walk away from his cushion
‘wait’: wait before going out the door
‘come’: go out the door
‘sit down, No, wait’: wait until the treat is given
‘this way’: make direction changes when on walks
‘milk’: Bay really likes Lactaid milk (lactose-free)
‘Gogi’: Korean word for meat
16. Favorite foods:
Meat jerky (e.g. any meat including chicken, slightly less dry, prefers handmade), Lactaid milk, chicken feet, bacon, meat that people eat.
** Based on Bay's characteristics, he would be a good match in a house:
with adults
with other dogs
that can walk him twice a day
that is active and likes to exercise
that is patient and can wait for Bay as he learns and adapts to his new environment.
that has previous experiences with bigger dogs
